Last Friday something kind of cool happened at our friends Jerry & Shelley's house. They had invited Mike Sheehan, an older guy that sings in the choir with us, to share about hsi recent missions trip to Argentina. The place was pretty packed, and we didn't help alleviate that: we brought Mikey and Hannah right along with us! Everyone wanted to play with Hannah, including our friend Rhonda:
...and Hannah's little friend Alivia:
We really enjoyed Mike's stories about his trip, and we even got to see some video of some of the congregations and places (it's on the laptop behind Mike's head):
The next morning we kind of relaxed and didn't do much. Hannah and I got in some practice time on the old keyboard:
Actually, it was supposed to be me getting some piano practice in, but Hannah always wants to be doing what Daddy's doing!
Sunday morning Cathy wasn't feeling well, so Mikey and I went to church stag. Mikey had forgotten his Nintendo DS, but I had the camera on me so I let him take pictures during sound check. The pictures are a little dark, but here's the whole set. And here's the one Mr. Robert tried to talk me into deleting within seconds of when Mikey took it:
That Mr. Robert! He's a fun guy!
My mom and dad usually pick up Mikey and Hannah after Sunday school so they don't have to wait for us to get done singing in second service, so they picked up Mikey and took him home. Unbeknownst to me, they took him to my home instead of theirs, so I showed up at their house and found nobody at the house but Sky Captain in the back yard:
(Hmm... maybe I should Photoshop that sidewalk a bit...)
It was Super Sunday at church, and Mario Murillo spoke in both the morning and evening services. It was really great stuff! If you want to know more about what happened Sunday morning, you'll have to read this post on my other blog.
Monday was Mikey's first den meeting with his new Cub Scout den, Den 1 of Pack 137. We've been to a pack activity already, but this was the first den meeting. They actually completed almost a whole achievement in their Bear books! They fingerprinted themselves and they did plaster casts of their feet (Mikey's plaster cast didn't turn out, but maybe some of them worked out better). The meeting was at Mayo Demonstration School, which I had never been inside although I've driven past it hundreds of times. I thought it was a really cool place; there are barely any walls in the whole building. It looks like much of it is one big library/classroom, although we were in a traditionally-sized room where they have art classes. Afterward all the kids went out onto the playground out back... one of the mothers told me that they kids love to go to school there and sometimes don't want to go home! We tried to get Mikey in there when he was going into Kindergarten, but we didn't get in. Pity; he would have loved it! But he's enjoying being in home school this year... which of course is another post...
Tuesday I auditioned for an acting role in this year's Christmas production at Grace. I've read the script a bunch of times, since we were working on some original music for it in WIT meetings, and I had so much fun reading through the script that I thought I'd try out for a part. Besides, we didn't get to be in the program last year... there were extenuating circumstances! So I guess maybe this year I'm making up for that. I love Christmas!
WHEW... after all that news, it's good to have a few days of the same old grind! Church Wednesday night with choir practice after, Thursday night we actually watched The Incredibles at home (that's SUCH a great movie!). Today Cathy and Mikey and Hannah are going shopping for some fall clothing, and I don't think we have any big plans for tonight. Tomorrow, however, is a BIG deal... not only do Mikey and I get to go to Lowe's and make a pirate ship, but Cathy gets to go see American Idols Live at the new BOK Center! And Grace Church is starting up the new Saturday evening services this weekend. If it wasn't for American Idols Live, I'd go to the first one, just to see how it went!
But the really SUPER big weekend will be next weekend. I'll tell you what happened as soon as I figure out which of the three or four things that are scheduled that we decide to do!
