Finally, a few minutes to blog about what we did on my actual birthday! Tuesday evening we did go out to Red Robin as planned, and then we did go out to the dollar theater to see Horton Hears a Who!, also as planned. Have you ever heard it said that history sometimes seems to repeat itself? Well, in this case there was a little bit of a repeat of this lovely experience, although we had nothing but fun at Red Robin so we did not have the poor service like we had that weekend at Delta Cafe. In fact, Red himself actually met us at the door and held it for us! And then when we were done eating, about five or six staff members plus Red came and sang their sort of paramilitary call/response happy birthday song for me, and gave me some ice cream. (Actually I don't know if Red sang; he doesn't seem to move his lips much.) Anyway, it was really noisy and fun. Mikey wanted my cherry. I ate it myself MWA HA HA!!!
When we got to the theater and the movie finally started, however, we did have to watch the first four or five minutes with the picture slooooowly sliding down the screen until we could only see about half of it. Then someone went up there and adjusted the camera, instantly jamming it and melting the film. So just like when we went to The Water Horse in February and this happened, when we finally braved the theater again in June, it happened again.
BUT: after they fixed the film from this, it ran again without incident. As during The Water Horse, Hannah slept in my arms during most of the movie, then near the end she got restless. This time it wasn't bottle time yet, so I just let her sit up (she's all about sitting up lately... don't MAKE her lay down, she doesn't WANT to lay down so THERE!!!!) and she was relatively quiet. She dropped her bink on the floor twice, though, which is far from sanitary. The only reason I wiped it really good with my fingers and shirt and gave it to her after it had been on the floor already once was because she was crankin' and the movie was almost over... I wanted to try to avoid disturbing everybody around us too badly. Then when she dropped it the second time we couldn't find it in the dark, so we had to wait until the film ran out and the screen went white (wasn't anyone bothering to pay attention to when the movie is over so they can turn off the projector and bring up the lights?) and then we could see that it was right where Mikey had been sitting all along!
That last paragraph makes it sound like we didn't enjoy the movie at all. In fact, we really liked it a lot! I had a lot of fun just hanging out with my wife and kids on my birthday. I really love those guys!
(By the way: a week or so ago we got The Water Horse on DVD from the library. I have to say, the picture was clearer and the whole experience was nicer than at that dollar theater. And we got to see the ending!)
