The last day of Cub Scout camp 2008! A couple of the parents mentioned having trouble getting their pooped kids going this morning, and then for most of the day some of the kids were like "Can we go home?", but then this afternoon at the end of the last activity when the group leaders said "Time to go to closing ceremony," the kids were all like AAAAAAAWWWWWW!!!

Part of the reason was our last activity, "skills," was all science-y today. "Dr. Smelslikeafish" showed us how to make Alka-Seltzer rockets out of film containers half-filled with water, and then he showed us how to make a vinegar-and-baking-soda volcano, and then he showed them some of the weird properties of 3 parts corn starch, 1 part water (it's basically a liquid, but it's firm enough to almost act like a solid sometimes.) They really loved that... which was why I took more pictures of that than anything else. They went fishing (all the packs caught lots of TURTLES today!), shot BBs (Mikey and most of the other kids qualified for a "Junior USA Shooting Team 2008" patch for sharpshooting), shot bows and arrows, made another leather bracelet, made some pack banners (I have a few pictures of the boys with their banners too), and played a simple game of hit-acardboard-box-with-a-Frisbee that turned into a crazy who-can-throw-the-Frisbee-more-times contest which was really fun. It was a terrific end for the week!

It didn't really rain today... it sprinkled VERY briefly at one point (some people probably didn't even notice) but it was sunshiny and pretty all day. Unfortunately, there was a little rain last night, so the mud was muddy again . Will I ever get the mud off my shoes? I may just have to burn them and start over with a new set. I'll tell you, this week was one of the most physically grueling things I've done in a long time. Every day was squishy and sweaty, and my back hurts, and I'm just exhausted. But I wouldn't trade the shared experience with Mikey for anything. I can't believe there are parents who do it once and won't do it again. It's rough, but it's definitely worth it!

Don't miss my Day 5 pictures here!
