This morning when I got up, it wasn't raining. That's because the HUGE MASSIVE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM was still about 15 miles to the west of us at the time! I had probably been up less than ten minutes when it started raining, and by the time we left the house it was really a mess. I had been hoping that some of the mud would dry up a little in the afternoon on Tuesday and then it would be less sloppy in the morning... no such luck! Maybe it dried up in the afternoon, but it certainly was wet back down by the time we got there. And the weather forecast this morning said it was going to continue to do the same thing the rest of the week... storms in the morning, sunshine in the afternoon. Mikey and I have been going on a minimal amount of sunblock, but I'm going to have to get some SPF 150 or something here or else I'll be so red that if I stand on a street corner people will stop. It was a sunburn waiting to happen, but the blue sky today after the rain stopped was positively beautiful!
Did I mention that yesterday we prayed that the rain would go away and the weather would be nice, and that happened yesterday, and then we prayed the same thing again today and it happened again today? I don't care if the weather man said it might work out that way or not... I believe our prayers made a difference.
Anyway, we had another great fun day! We finally got to shoot BB guns, and the boys enjoyed that a lot, and then we went to archery, and Mikey got a deadeye! (That's what they call the smallest circle inside the bullseye.) They give the kids a gold bead for a deadeye and a silver bead for the part of the bullseye that isn't inside the smallest inner circle... Mikey hit right on the line, so the lady gave him both.
So anyway, after we did archery we made some leather bracelets (we didn't cut them out... just stamped stamps on them), and then we ate lunch (Mikey and Connor were trying to tell each other knock knock jokes, and they were just NOT working out very well! hehe). After lunch we got to do something else we hadn't done yet this week... the zip line! I was really proud of Mikey, because back during Dad & Lad he rode the zip line out there at Zink Ranch and although he had fun he swore he would never do it again! But today he was among the first in line. He says that this one isn't as tall as the one at Zink Ranch, and some of the other boys said the same. I'm thinking maybe they're mistaken about that... I'll have to ask around tomorrow and see if one of the adult leaders knows for sure.
After that we did a craft which I think the leader called a "zinger" which consists of a stack of paper plates, stapled together and decorated with markers and cut into cool shapes with scissors, which you throw like a Frisbee. Mikey's looks kind of like a flying gear... it's pretty cool. I even made one!
The last thing on our to-do list was to go fishing on the dock. Today Mikey had some pretty promising nibbles, but he never hooked anything. His "funnest thing of the day" happened during fishing time... there was one turtle that would swim right over to Mikey's bobber as soon as it hit the water. I'm pretty sure we lost a worm or two to that guy. He was very brazen about it... he swam right up to it on the top of the water and then dove right down to steal Mikey's bait! Mikey calls it the "homing turtle."
By this time it was about 2:30. Closing ceremonies are at 3, and camp officially closes at 3:30, but because Cathy's first turn as an official member of the praise team is tonight and she has to be there super early (5:00, I believe) Mikey and I left a little early to make sure everyone would have time to get cleaned up and ready to go. I was glad to get out of the sun anyway. I'm wearing my red shirt again tonight, hoping that people don't notice how red my FACE is!
